Ok, I know I've been M.I.A. for a while so I wanted to do an update of some styles you've had lately. It's two days before Christmas and we are going all the way back to Halloween! For the Halloween party at your pre-k you were a ballerina. You wore a white leotard and tights and a pink tutu that I made for you. Your hair was pulled back into a high bun-your first ever! I used eco styler gel and a sock to make the bun.
You were really putting it on in this picture!
Next we are going to skip to Thanksgiving. This was very last minute and didn't turn out like I had hoped. I parted your hair down the middle and quickly braided it using Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie. I left it in the braid for all of about 45 minutes, not at all long enough. I took the braids out and throw the hat on your head. As the day went on your hair curled and shrunk more and more. Oh well, I'll plan better next time.
You still looked cute, even if the back of your hat was longer than your hair!
Now, sometime in mid December I did this next style. I saw it on an adult woman but thought it was super cute. I parted a square from your ear to about your temple. I then used eco styler gel and did four cornrows. I did the same thing on the other side. I added Shea Moisture curl enhancing smoothie to the back and used bobbie pins to pin the top back. It looked really cute and using the eco styler gel on the cornrows really helped them hold up for the whole week.
I had more pictures of the other side and the front but for some reason they didn't transfer. The pictures aren't the best, but like I said, there's 2 days until Christmas and I'm hoping one of my gifts will be a new camera!
I'm not sure how you will where your hair for Christmas but I'm going to really try to post on a regular basis so I don't get behind.

Braided Headband + Random Pictures
I've been trying not to do a lot with your hair lately. I'm trying to get it as healthy as possibly and to gain some length on your new growth before we do too much with it, so you've been wearing your hair out or in a puff a lot. So to switch things up a bit I thought I would do a simple but cute style. I did a braided headband and left off any accessories for the week.
This is second day hair so your short new grow or baby hairs have come out of the braids. I parted your hair from ear to ear and tied the back off to get it out of my way. Next I did an off center part and tied one side off. I add some Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and a little Eco Styler Gel. I started cornrowing from the top of your head down to your ear and tied the braid off with a rubber band that I dipped in some coconut oil. I did the same thing on the other side and we were done.
Today was Pajama day at school so I had to add this picture.

Growth Check
It's been almost 2 months since we've done a growth/length check so I thought now would be a great time to do it.
You have had significant growth in a very short amount of time.
Here is a reminder of the last length check. Your hair hit at right about the bottom of your shoulder blade.
I'm very happy with the results we've had since incorporating proper care and products.
We'll check your growth again in about a month or so.
*Note: Your hair is looking a little crazy in the top picture. I had just taken down a small section from a puff. The rest is still in the elastic, that's why it looks so thin and wispy.

Styles Update
We've been pretty busy since school started and I haven't been posting much but I wanted to do an update. For a few weeks you just wore your hair out or in a puff, nothing special. But I did do a couple of styles that I wanted to show.
The first pictures are from your picture day.
We did a flexirod set that I would say is pretty perfect! We bought some bigger flexirods and used the same process as when we did your Birthday flexirod set. I LOVE the bigger rods. The made all the difference. We used Eco Styler Gel for hold.
The next pictures are of a style we stole from our favorite blog Beads Braids and Beyond.
I parted out a square in front of your right ear. I tied it off using an ouchless elastic and then braided that hair. Then I moved toward the left side of your head, parting another square, and added the braid to that hair before tying it off. I continued to do this making four squares across the top of your head.
Then I made a square above your right ear, tied it off, braided and continued to part squares all the way to the left side of your head. You had two squares on the side and three in the back.
I then pulled the rest of your hair into a side pony, moisturized with Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and fluffed.
You also had a braided mohawk, but unfortunately I don't have pictures of it.
You were the first star student in your class and had to bring in a poster telling about you, your favorite book and a special snack to share with the class. Since your nickname is Cupcake of course we had to make them for your special snack! So since you are in the Zebra class we made zebra cupcakes. Here they are...

REVIEW: Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie
I wanted to do a quick post about a new product we recently bought. I've been reading about how great all the Shea Moisture products are on other blogs and really wanted to try it. First off let my say that I love love love the smell. It's very tropical. It is also a certified organic product, which is great! The first time we used it I sectioned your hair, sprayed with our water/conditioner mix, and gently detangled. I got a little dollop on my finger and rubbed it between my hands. I was a little worried because it was very white on my hands. I was scared it would leave a white residue or not blend into your hair well. I was wrong. I took each section of hair between my hands and pulled down from root to ends, then added a little more to your ends. Your hair curled right up and told me it loves this product! :) Your curls were shiny, frizz free, full and thick and perfectly weighed down. This will be our new go to moisturizer. I would like to try it for a braid out or twist out. Here are some pictures of the results.
I wish the top picture was a little more clear, but the second picture really shows how pretty your curls were!

3 Side Braids
You started preschool last week so I haven't really had time to post lately, but I love the style we did this week so I wanted to post it. Your first few days of school you wore your hair out and curly. So, all I did for this style was part out a square on the left side of your head. I then parted out 3 sections of hair and cornrowed up. I tied them off with rubber bands that I soaked in some EVOO and we were done. We left the rest of the hair curly.
The next day at school your teacher told you she loved your hair and that it was so cute and you said "I know"! Lol, we need to work on your manners!
This was the style on the 3rd day so the cornrows are a little fuzzy. But it's still cute. Luckily you only have one more day of school before the weekend and we can do a new style.
At night we detangle, spray with our water and conditioner mix and moisturize with EVOO. You sleep in a silk bonnet and in the morning we just fluff and go!

Length
I wanted to post a picture of your current length. On average our hair grows about 1/2 inch per month. Hopefully we can get a little more with our protective styles and proper care. So I will try to post a length check or growth check about every month or 6 weeks or so.
Here is our starting picture.
It's hitting almost to the bottom of your shoulder blade. My thumb is kind of in the way, but right under my thumb you can see a dark spot, that is the end of your hair.
So, we'll check back again next month. Sometimes it's hard to notice growth in kids because the child is growing at the same time the hair is growing, so it may look like the hair hasn't grown. But it is!
